CIRCLE MASTERS CLUB HISTORY

The Circle Masters Flying Club was started by less than ten interested modelers during the summer of 1968. The club formed with four officers and soon became affiliated with the Academy of Model Aeronautics and was awarded a charter, #662. The club held monthly meetings, usually on Saturdays and continues this practice to this day. The club flew their models at various locations on the South and West sides of Milwaukee, wherever a suitable location could be found. Problems with noise caused by un-muffled engines, as well as encroaching building expansion caused the club to move several times.  A more permanent location was needed and members began lobbying the Milwaukee County Park Commission for a location in Dretzka Park, which was granted. The club regularly flew at this facility and also held contests there. However, as time went by, other organizations began to use this same facility making it difficult for flying there. Then, largely thru the efforts of club member Dan Tetzlaff, an area within the Sussex Village Park was secured as a club flying site and it remains so today. This flying site has now been designated the Dan Tetzlaff Memorial Flying Field in his honor.

The members, thru the years, have flown mostly Stunt and Scale control line model aircraft. However various Racing types were flown as well as Combat types. Many members competed in local and national contests, winning many awards. Eventually the club began to sponsor their own contest, known as the Wisconsin Control Line Championships and it was held at various locations around the Milwaukee area. In addition members participated in mall shows, Hobby Shop shows and displays. The club is an active member in many community events such as Make-a-Wish.
