Here's my second building contest entry fresh from the laser cutter. The model is of the "Stinger" Formula one racing plane from the early 70s. The model is designed to conform to Dallas Sport Goodyear racing rules. 1/8th scale, 29 inch span powered by a Magnum XLS .15 as per the Sport Goodyear regulations. You will notice even the engine is in a dozen pieces! Design and plans are from Big How's own fertile mind.

He has entertained club members for years with sweet flying giro's that meet and untimely end in horrific (and funny) landing accidents. They do fly really well, he is a true master builder and he is not afraid of finding the edge of the performance envelop.

4/22 update. Although Mike doesn't like monokote, the transparent red sure makes this look good.

Mike is staring another one. This one is Beech Staggerwing biplane an I BEAM no less. This is his third entry.

They will be about 52 inches in span with a 12 inch root and 8 inch tip chord.
The airfoil is a NACA0015-92, The -92 moves the high point forward from 30 to 20% and blunts the leading edge.
It will have a tapered spars top and bottom. The spar notch it too large on the pictures. I will cut the foam on my home brew weight fall foam cutter.

At least one will have a hard tank and all will allow mufflers when practice flying.
It will be a lot like the Yankee nipper except a little leading edge sweep helps in a crash and I think the boom needs to be a little longer.

Power will be one of my OS SFR 25's wiht metal motor mounts.

Not much progress, the templates did not product good cores. I need to rethink the lead in angles when using a feather cut system. While the feather cus system is really cool, many things have to be perfect to wok out.

The scrap however has been turned into some more 1/2A airplanes. The cuts were made with a single template and a fixed pivot. I get very good results wiht that method.

3/2/2018 Wayne's Super Solution in paint and ready for final assembly!

Wayne's entry looks to be a profile super solution. We can see it looks like the 40 inch model designed by Allen Brickhaus. We can see a 3 line bell crank and 40 engine. We will be interested in seeing his progress.

The details on my entry as follows: This model, Laird Super Solution, is a 40 inch profile model built from Flying Models plans. I received them the week they went belly up. It will be powered by an old model O.S. .40 S which is a full bearing engine equipped with and OS carb so I will have throttle control. I do plan to enter it into the club contest next year providing that I can fly without falling down. I am building it with as close to scale as I can with the club contest in mind. There is a lot of balsa dust in my shop and I love it. Pictures to follow from my I pad.

It all framed up and ready for covering. The woodwork looks awesome and wayne does a nice job with paint.
